Key Requirements
- Grade 10 or ABET Level 4 qualification
- Proficiency in cleaning and maintenance procedures
- Familiarity with safety requirements attached to the cleaner’s role
- Basic knowledge of hand tools usage
- Competency in numeracy and literacy skills to read operation instructions and notices
Competencies and Skills
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, successful candidates will exhibit commitment, hard work, and the ability to work long hours under pressure. They will also possess excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Other desirable attributes include the ability to perform repetitive tasks, knowledge of hygiene and facilities policies, and awareness of relevant legislation, prescripts, policies, and procedures.
Duties
As a cleaner, you will ensure the building remains pristine by carrying out an array of cleaning chores which include dusting and waxing office furniture, sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors, cleaning walls, windows, and doors among other tasks. Your role will also involve removing waste papers, refreshing the office areas, cleaning the college/campus kitchen and basins, washing and packing kitchen utensils and emptying and washing waste bins while directing recyclables to the disposal area. Additionally, the cleaner is responsible for cleaning hallways and corridors.
