Introducing: VBKOM Bursaries 2024

Founded in 2008, VBKOM is the brainchild of five ambitious mining engineers, aiming to assist mining companies throughout Africa to achieve success. Their vision materialized into a highly proficient consulting company, offering domestic and international clients specialized technical mining consulting services

Recognizing the significance of continual growth, VBKOM expanded their basic array of mining engineering services with strategic inclusion of important supplementary services. This approach allowed them to extend their customer assistance, covering the entire value chain. In 2015, VBKOM set up a second office in Kathu, Northern Cape Province of South Africa to better serve their vast clientele

Details of the VBKOM Bursaries 2024 Program

Offering opening applications to candidates from diverse backgrounds, the VBKOM Bursaries program is committed to helping awardees succeed academically. This program welcomes candidates who demonstrate remarkable academic proficiency, coupled with qualities becoming of a diligent student

Awardees of this program will not have to worry about registration costs and tuition fees, as VBKOM takes full responsibility of these charges. As long as awardees pass the registered courses and adhere to the VBKOM bursary contract, this scholarship is honored for the duration of the prescribed course

Note: Unfortunately, the bursary program is not available to students pursuing National Diplomas

Bursary Program Obligations

Upon graduation, awardees have a year-for-year service commitment to VBKOM meaning, each academic year (or part thereof) funded by the bursary requires one year of service at VBKOM.
Vbkom employees are required to perform fully compensated vacation labor, upon conclusion of the first, second, and the third academic years.

Eligibility Criteria

To ensure your suitability for the program, consider the below eligibility criteria thoroughly:

General Requirements:

Applicant must be an official citizen of South Africa
Must fulfill the university entry requirements
Must have been officially accepted in a fully accredited South African University for full-time studies

Educational Requirements:

In addition to the general eligibility criteria, educational requirements differ between applicants who are current Grade 12 students or already matriculated (but not studying yet) and current University students

For current Grade 12 students or already matriculated (but not studying yet) :

At least a Level 5/60%/C symbol in Mathematics HG/Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy), Physical Science HG/Physical Science and English
Subjects listed above must have been chosen in Grades 10-12

A minimum of Level 5/60%/C symbol in the subjects above must have been obtained

For Current University Students:

Must be pursuing studies in either Project Management, Industrial Engineering, Mining Engineering or Geology (with majors in Mineralogy, Petrology, Applied Geology, or Economic Geology) Physical Metallurgy/Materials Science
Must have obtained at least an overall average aggregate score of 60%

Must not have failed any of their courses or subjects
