A great career opportunity awaits at the Department of Health as they open up applications for a Permanent Porter position. The selected candidate will work chiefly under the Metro Health Services division in their Mitchells Plain District Hospital/ EC HUB.
Position Overview
The Porter position carries an attractive remuneration of R125,373 per annum, with the designated workplace operating between various institutions and the Heideveld Emergency Hub.
Qualifications and Experience Needed
- Basic reading and writing skills.
- Experience as a Porter/mortuary worker in a public health facility.
- Availability to work shifts, including nightshift, weekends, and Public Holidays.
- Comfortability in handling corpses.
- Ability to work overtime when needed.
- Sobriety, physical fitness for lifting loads.
- Gentlemanly conduct in absence of colleagues and willingness to work in all departments.
Desired Skills and Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of safe infection prevention methods.
- Ability to work under pressure, unsupervised and in a team context.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivery of specimens to laboratories and ensuring a safe and hygienic work environment.
- Check and replace gas cylinders in wards/treatment areas and assist with shifting medical equipment.
- Take responsibility for the transportation of corpses from wards to the mortuary.
- Safe transport of patients on trolleys and wheelchairs to and from different departments/wards.
- Maintain cleanliness of trolleys, wheelchairs, and working areas.
