Job Details

The privileged prospective candidate will be awarded a 12-month renewable fixed term contract under the Administrative Assistant Ref No: 145/2023 (CDWPP). The work station will be situated at the Chief Directorate: Community Development Workers and Public Participation, in the Directorate: CDWS and Rapid Response in Pietermaritzburg. The remuneration will be marked at R171 537 per annum (Level 04).

Qualification Requirements

The eligible applicant must have completed Grade 12 and possess a post-matric certificate or equivalent qualification. An unendorsed valid code EB driver’s license is also required, coupled with 1-year driving experience, working with people with a disability, as well as performing administrative work.

Competencies and Skills

The successful candidate must possess these essential knowledge, skills, and competencies:

  • Human rights understanding relating to disability
  • Knowledge on guiding visually impaired individuals
  • Understanding of the needs of people with disability
  • Awareness of disability etiquette
  • Competency in administrative tasks pertaining to visually impaired individuals
  • Ability to commute visually impaired persons
  • Excellent guided sight skills
  • Current computer skills (inclusive of JAWS, fine-reader, and embosser)
  • Excellent communication skills in both Isizulu and English

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate must be able to assist a visually impaired individual with tasks that they would normally perform for themselves if they didn’t have the disability, including administrative, driving, transport, mobility, ensuring access to information and general support to ensure competent services are provided to the departmental stakeholders. The successful applicant will also be required to provide administrative support to the visually impaired administration clerk in CDWS.

The scope of administration extends to the Rapid Response Directorate, where the Secretary will handle key responsibilities like provision of travel assistance to the visually impaired administration clerk, effectiveness of reception function/front office tasks, user-friendly accessibility and provision of information to the administration clerk, and supervision of the administration clerk’s use of bathrooms facilities and movement between offices and venues.
