Teacher Assistant Applications for 2024 Phase 5 are not Open

South Africans are hereby notified that applications for Teacher Assistant phase 5 earmarked for 2024 are currently not open on the SAYouth platform. The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI), a key player in the Basic Education Sector, is making strides toward creating employment opportunities for South African youth.

The Role of PYEI in Youth Employment

The PYEI is a crucial part of a far-reaching public investment strategy aimed at fostering mass employment, stimulating economic activity, and reducing the incidence of youth unemployment. It further provides valuable work experience for South African youth.

This programme is targeted primarily at young people aged between 18 and 34, who should be turning 35 on or before March 31, 2024. The initiative primarily focuses on those youth who are currently unemployed, not in education, or not in any form of training.

Distribution of Employment Opportunities

From the targeted total of 255,100 opportunities, 195,100 are meant for Education Assistants, while 60,000 will go to General School Assistants. Schools are encouraged to assign a certain number of these posts to graduates, providing them with valuable practical experience that supports their career progression and enhances their chances of securing permanent employment.

Under the fourth phase of the initiative, Assistants receive a monthly stipend of R4,081.44, which includes a 1% contribution toward the unemployment insurance fund by the employee. In addition, employers also contribute 1% to the UIF, bringing the total contribution to 2%. This amount is dispatched to the Department of Labour and Employment.
