Job Description
Job PurposeThe purpose of the Senior BI Developer is to assist with turning raw data into meaningful insights for the business through designing, developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions. Job Objectives and FunctionsData extraction and transformation Responsible for extracting and transforming data from the system and using ETL processes to prepare data for analysis Database and Semantic Model DevelopmentResponsible for working with databases to store and retrieve data efficiently and to write and optimise SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation Responsible for semantic model development using SQL queries and views Responsible for semantic model development in Power BI using relationships, DAX measures, parameters, etc. Report and dashboard development Responsible for creating reports and dashboards to visualise and communicate the results or insights effectively Responsible for creating reports and dashboards which enhances user experience Responsible for the migration of reports across workspaces Responsible for configuring and managing access to reports, dashboards, workspaces and applications Collaboration with stakeholders Work closely with business analysts or business users to understand data requirements and turn these requirements into BI solutions Responsible for training business users on Power BI initiatives Troubleshooting and support Responsible for troubleshooting with BI solutions and provide support to end-users to address data discrepancies (level 0 support) Troubleshoot report errors (data errors, incorrect calculations, missing values, etc.) Responsible for monitoring reports and dataflows to ensure refreshes are taking place and resolving errors when they occurDocumentation Responsible for documenting and managing BI initiatives on Azure Devops on a regular basis Responsible for documenting data models, processes and BI solutions for future reference and effective knowledge transfer Job RequirementsQualifications and Experience+5 years experience as a BI Developer NQF6 Degree in Computer science / Information technology or related field Microsoft certification in PL300 – Power BI Data Analyst Associate Microsoft certification in DP900 – Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals Skills, Abilities and Job-Related KnowledgeDimensional semantic model design principles (Star schema) DAX for Power BI Measures PowerBI components (Power Query, modelling, report visualisation) PowerBI online components (App, Access, Management) Data sources (SQL Server, flat files, Dynamics D365) Report development Data Analysis Data Exploration using Power BI Microsoft Excel Numerical Reasoning Problem solving (Trouble shooting)
