This pivotal role involves spearheading the enhancement of academic curricula, fostering holistic student growth, promoting student well-being, and ensuring the efficient management of academic information systems. By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Head of Academic plays a crucial role in cultivating a dynamic and supportive learning environment conducive to academic excellence and student success. Duties & Responsibilities:Student Wellness:Leading, mentoring, and empowering employees within the Student Wellness Center to promote high performance and effective implementation of Student Wellness programmes.Develop and implement community engagement initiatives including student leadership programs through the National Wellness ManagerOversee the overall student wellness program and initiatives. Lecturer Development:Develop programmes that aim to enhance teaching and learning of academic staff in line with 21st century skills across all faculties.Provide guidance and support to the professional development of Lecturing staffOversee the orientation of lecturers into the institution. Student Development:Implement and oversee the undergraduate and postgraduate student peer mentoringImplement and oversee the undergraduate and academic literacy support programProvide innovative and substantial support to ensure that students have a positive first year experienceDevelop programmes that aim to enhance 21st century skills for studentsReview academic processes to ensure student-centricity Information Specialist:Leading, mentoring, and empowering the Information Centre Manager to cultivate a student-centric support environment aimed at providing exceptional information centre experiences.Develop and implement strategies for Library & Information Specialist support that aligns with IIE’s academic success targets, focusing on enabling student academic success through innovative and effective use of information resources.Oversee the recruitment, retention, and development of high-calibre information specialist staff that aligns with RC’s purpose, ensuring a team capable of meeting the evolving needs of our student body.Strategically utilize digital student support systems to enhance student learning and success, directing the provision of digital resources within the Library & Information Services to support academic pursuits effectively. People Management:Conduct performance planning session, track and monitor performance in accordance with performance contractsConduct performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and take corrective actions where necessaryComplete or Performance Management contracts and documentationProvide coaching and feedback to employees on how to improve and sustain their performanceManage Personal Development conversations and the completion of Personal Development PlansLead the department by managing appointments, promotions, and industrial relations issues conjunction with the Human Resources Support Service UnitConduct disciplinary actions as per the company’s policy and procedure where necessary Minimum Requirements:QualificationsNQF Level 8 Qualification – Honours Degree in Education (Minimum)NQF Level 9 Qualification – Master’s Degree in Education (Advantageous)ExperienceTeaching experience in Higher Education (5 Years)Academic support experience (3 years)Operational Management / Academic experience (5 Years)Support in a Teaching and Learning Environment experience (2 Years)Experience with developments in e-learning (2 Years Advantageous) Key Competencies:Advanced knowledge in Education (NQF Level 8 or higher)Best practices in e-learning and digital education tools.Current trends and challenges in student wellness and academic support.Knowledge of legislative and ethical requirements in higher education.Knowledge of Educational technology platforms and information resource management.Pedagogical strategies for 21st century skills development.Understanding of operational management in an academic setting.Salary:Market related. Rosebank College is an equal opportunities employer however preference will be given to EE and South African candidates.
