The Office of the Tax Ombud (OTO) was established to provide an independent and impartial channel for taxpayers who have exhausted the normal complaints mechanisms of the South African Revenue Service (SARS). As an independent entity, the OTO resolves service, procedural, and administrative complaints, proposing solutions based on the facts and the laws of the land. It promotes access to justice, taxpayer rights, and a balanced approach between SARS's powers and duties.
