Council for Geoscience (CGS)

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) plays a crucial role in developing and sharing geoscience knowledge and providing geoscience-related services to the South African public and industry. Their mandate encompasses mapping and documenting the geology of South Africa, conducting geoscience research, managing a national geoscience repository, and offering commercial geoscience services. As an overseer, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) ensures that the CGS effectively carries out its responsibilities as the custodian of geoscientific information in the country.
