Job Profile
The opening position focuses on the role of a General Miner. Legally tasked with construction blasting, as required by the MHSA, the candidate is expected to support and assist the existing mining team in executing all job-related tasks. The responsibilities of a General Miner extend beyond transporting men, material, and ore, it places one in the thick of activity, handling construction within the mining domain.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensuring the safety of workspaces through consistent inspections.
- Maintaining strict adherence to safety and mining standards.
- Managing explosives and preparing the blasting area to enable safe and effective blasting.
- Continually monitor and correct procedures to maintain a team-wide understanding of standards.
- Maintaining ongoing communication with supervisors and team members.
- Coordinating with the Shift Supervisor or Shaft Foreman regarding operations and maintenance activities.
- Compiling accurate shift reports and maintaining operational progress and material order records.
- Ensuring the team’s awareness and access to necessary job instructions and checklists.
Qualifications and Experience
The required qualifications for the position includes a Grade 10 certificate and a National Certificate NQF Level 3 Rock Breaker or a valid Blasting Certificate for underground (Hard Rock) operations. Preferred candidates should possess 1 to 3 years of experience as a Miner /Crew Captain. Applicants with trackless mining experience will hold an advantage. Importantly, successful candidates will be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Test.
