GCRA (Gauteng City Region Academy) Bursary 2024: Financial Assistance for Gauteng Youths Applying for Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degrees


The Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) is presenting the GCRA Bursary 2024, a financial support program aimed at Gauteng youths who are preparing to embark on undergraduate or postgraduate degree studies. This initiative is designed to increase the quality of the future workforce in the Gauteng City region by offering financial aid to bright students who are both residents and prospective learners in the region.

The Gauteng City Region Academy, commonly known as GCRA, is a facility operated by the Gauteng Department of Education. The facility is designed to reinforce the significance of education among the local community. The primary goal of the academy is to enhance the quality of education among learners and to streamline the teaching process within classrooms. The initiative integrates the learners, institutions, local businesses, partnering establishments, as well as the employees of the Gauteng government in order to achieve its objectives.

Coverage and Eligibility

The GCRA Bursary 2024 addresses various student-related expenses. These primarily include full tuition expenses, notwithstanding fees related to clubs or gym-related costs, accommodation and catering costs up to R65,000, Off-campus and private accommodation expenses up to R47,000, prescribed study materials (proof of purchase such as receipts is required), and a living stipend for students.

Interested candidates need to meet certain eligibility criteria to secure the GCRA Bursary. This includes:

  • Being a South Africa citizen.
  • Should be aged between 18-35 years.
  • Currently residing in Gauteng.
  • Applicants who have completed their Matric qualifications and reside in Gauteng.

In addition to these, top-performing students from Gauteng schools, top-rated learners from Gauteng non-fee schools, and the top three learners from LSEN schools based in Gauteng also qualify for the bursary.

How to Apply?

To apply for the GCRA Bursary 2024, interested candidates can register on the online application portal. Candidates will need to submit documents including a copy of South-African ID, proof of Gauteng residency, Matric certificate, recent academic transcripts, proof of household income from parents or guardians, and an acceptance letter from a recognized PSET institution, among others.
