Requirements for the Role
The ideal candidate for this role must have a Grade 12 Certificate. Apart from educational qualifications, applicants should have some basic knowledge of financial functions and practices, as well as possess the ability to capture data, operate a computer, and collate financial statistics.
Furthermore, noteworthy financial legislation procedures and Treasury Regulations, such as the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Division of Revenue Act (DORA), Public Service Act (PSA), the Public Service Regulations (PSR), and the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) are other inclinations the applicant is expected to be knowledgeable about. A basic understanding of financial operating systems such as Personnel and Salary Administration System (PERSAL), Basic Accounting System (BAS), Logistical Information System (LOGIS) would be of great advantage.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in planning, organization, use of computer systems, fluency in language, effective communication (both verbal and written), and basic numeracy are crucial skills required for this job role. The candidate must also exhibit attributes such as flexibility, interpersonal relations, teamwork, and ability to perform routine tasks. The ability to operate office equipment, ensuring accuracy and possessing aptitude with figures will also enhance the candidate’s success in the role.
Main Duties
The selected candidate will be responsible for handling a variety of tasks. Some of the main duties include rendering financial accounting transactions, checking invoices for correctness, verification and approval (internal control), and processing invoices. The candidate will also have the responsibility of collecting cash and performing salary administration support services.
In a bid to maintain an organized system, adequate bookkeeping support services are also a part of the job role. The post holder will also be charged with capturing all financial transactions, recovering suspense accounts, recording debts and creditors and processing electronic banking transactions amongst other duties.
