Job Purpose:
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism in the Western Cape Government is looking for a dynamic and innovative senior manager. This role focuses on providing the right skills to help stimulate economic growth in the region. As the Director, you will lead efforts to develop and manage skills programs and projects that support economic development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) in commerce or economics related to a discipline recognized by SAQA.
  • At least 5 years of middle and/or senior management experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in skills, education, or economic development areas, or in implementing related priorities.

Key Performance Areas:
In this role, you will provide strategic management, advice, and guidance in several key functional areas. These include developing and managing workplace skills projects, partnering with higher education institutions to create relevant curricula, facilitating learner placements with host companies, and driving skills development initiatives overall.

Strategic Management:
You will define and regularly review the purpose, objectives, priorities, and activities of the Directorate. Lead the strategic planning process and develop and manage the strategic and business plans. Continuously evaluate the Directorate’s performance against set key measurable objectives and standards to ensure ongoing improvement and alignment with departmental goals.

People Management:
Participate in recruiting the right number and level of employees to meet the Directorate’s business plan. Motivate, train, and guide your team to achieve and maintain high standards in service delivery. Manage performance evaluations and rewards effectively. Build capacity through training and ensure involvement in workforce planning, service delivery improvement programs, and information resources planning. Promote good labor relations and maintain discipline within the team.

Financial Management:
Take part in the budgeting process at the Directorate level. Prepare annual and adjustment budgets. Ensure efficient, economic, and effective control over the budget and expenditures. Follow correct tender and procurement procedures for all purchases. Manage contracts effectively and ensure all spending aligns with strategic objectives. Report on financial aspects to the Chief Director and relevant oversight bodies. Safeguard the Directorate’s assets and implement proper risk management procedures.

Remuneration:
All-inclusive salary package of R1,266,714.00 per annum (Level 13). This includes a basic salary component (70%) plus the employer’s contribution to the Pension Fund. The rest of the package can be structured based on your personal needs.

Job Purpose:
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism in the Western Cape Government seeks a qualified and competent individual for this role. You will provide administrative and prosecution services, as well as teamwork support, to the Western Cape Consumer Affairs Tribunal (WCCAT). Additionally, you will perform inspectorate functions within the Office of the Consumer Protector to ensure smooth operations with stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:
– An appropriate 3-year Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent or higher qualification) in the legal field.
– A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a legal and/or regulatory environment.

Key Performance Areas:
Provide administrative and operational services to the Western Cape Consumer Affairs Tribunal (WCCAT). Offer prosecution services to WCCAT. Handle project implementation and administration.
