Position Overview

The Office of the Ombudsman invites applications for an 18-month internship program designed to provide practical experience in municipal governance and investigative processes. This opportunity is specifically reserved for Johannesburg residents meeting the academic requirements.

Remuneration:
– R10,109.86 per month (Basic salary for enrolled students)
– R3,500.00 per month (Basic salary for non-students)

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed or final-year student in Law Diploma/Degree program
  • Law school certification (advantageous but not mandatory)
  • Primary residency within Johannesburg municipal boundaries
  • No prior internship experience in related fields

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary assessments of public complaints
  • Support evidence gathering and documentation for investigations
  • Analyze municipal regulations and compliance matters
  • Prepare detailed case reports and maintain investigation records
  • Assist with community outreach and public education initiatives
  • Collaborate with municipal departments on resolution processes

Key Competencies

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional analytical and legal interpretation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated ethical judgment and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of public administration principles (Batho Pele)
  • Time management and organizational capabilities
