Nature Reserve Supervisor

Purpose of the Role

This position is responsible for the effective, efficient, and responsible management of staff, property, projects, and guest relations. The goal is to maximize the facility’s excellence by improving and maintaining properties to provide a high-quality nature reserve, accommodation, grounds, and dams that meet legislative requirements and guest expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all routine schedules are followed and conduct follow-up inspections to maintain standards.
  • Inspect and confirm that all property service utilities, such as water, electricity, and sanitation, are fully operational and reliable.
  • Perform regular checks on all equipment to ensure it is in good working order and operating at the required efficiency levels.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations related to occupational health, safety, and environmental laws.
  • Support property maintenance and repairs to keep facilities in top condition.
  • Ensure that all maintenance tasks and inspections are carried out promptly, and complete routine repairs as needed.
  • Assist with repairs to perimeters and ongoing fence maintenance to secure the reserve.
  • Help with dam maintenance, land management, and implementing bush control measures to preserve the natural environment.
  • Support maintenance of accommodation units and outbuildings to provide comfortable stays for guests.
  • Assist in setting up fire control layouts and safety perimeters to manage and prevent fire hazards effectively.
  • Follow all emergency procedures, including maintaining clear escape routes, fire extinguisher points, and up-to-date emergency contact numbers.
  • Assist with inspections of game and stock counts, as well as health assessments, to monitor population levels and animal welfare.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • A suitable qualification in nature reserve management and agriculture is required.
  • Advantageous: A qualification in hospitality management.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years in a similar environment, such as nature reserve or agricultural management.
  • Experience in staff management and development.
  • Advantageous: Previous work in a hospitality environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong practical knowledge of managing a farm and trout fishing establishment.
  • Familiarity with firearm control and permit requirements.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to interact professionally with VIP guests.

Responsibilities include overseeing wildlife welfare, such as population management, game capture, and species introductions. The role also involves conducting controlled burns, managing invasive vegetation, monitoring high-profile animal populations, and maintaining fences and infrastructure. Additionally, the attendant will provide environmental education and handle essential administrative tasks. Overall, this position focuses on protecting and preserving the animals and the land for future generations.

Surveyor (SF)

Purpose of the Role

This role involves obtaining appropriate internal and external information to ensure accurate surveying, certifications, and representation on plans of all surface features and mining-related events. The work must comply with relevant Acts, Regulations, and contractual agreements to support informed management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to permissions regarding rights, leases, servitudes, Special Rights of Prospecting (SRP’s), and similar legal aspects.
  • Assist with Land Management and Surface Subsidence Monitoring Programs to track and mitigate ground movement.
  • Ensure no sterilization of mineral reserves due to new surface structures, protecting potential mining areas.
  • Calculate and issue certificates for payments in accordance with contractual agreements, including for opencast operations, waste rock dumps, and excavations/fillings.
  • Ensure full integration of Surface Plans with relevant systems, gathering survey data and representing it electronically for accuracy and accessibility.
  • Identify and report on any unauthorized usage of surface areas to prevent encroachments.
  • Perform exploration surveys to support new mining activities.
  • Conduct volumetric surveys to measure material volumes accurately.
  • Carry out piezometer level surveys for tailings dams to monitor water levels and perform freeboard surveys for safety.
  • Take responsibility for all surface, construction, project, and opencast survey activities.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of all surveying equipment to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Survey all exploration boreholes, rehabilitation work, surface accidents, and represent this information on plans.
  • Regularly update the Surface Responsibility Plan to reflect current conditions.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Advanced Chamber of Mines Survey and Valuation Certificate, or National Diploma in Survey, or BTech in Mineral Resources Management.
  • Drone License for aerial surveying capabilities.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in underground mine surveying.
  • Must obtain membership in MS (SAIMM or IMSSA) or equivalent after appointment.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Plans (EMP), land asset management, surface rights, and surface protection is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Computer literacy relevant to the role, including surveying software.
  • Knowledge of Mineral Resources Management (MRM) systems.
  • Experience with check surveys for accuracy verification.
