Specialist: Governance, Risk & Compliance

Position Overview

This critical role provides specialist governance, risk and compliance (GRC) related management support and strategic advisory services to management across the South African Bank Note Company (SABN). The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining approved GRC methodologies aligned with the organization’s risk and compliance management frameworks, while developing and implementing robust ethical practices, business continuity planning, and records management systems to safeguard operational integrity and protect stakeholder interests.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate comprehensive day-to-day operations of the GRC functions for the company, including ethics management, business continuity management, and information records management systems
  • Develop and implement sophisticated GRC oversight mechanisms and monitoring tools to assist business units in evaluating performance against established governance standards
  • Maintain continuous alignment of organizational policies, processes, and systems with evolving industry best practices and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor and ensure strict compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and SABN internal policies and procedures across all operational areas
  • Provide expert-level advisory services and consultation on complex GRC matters to relevant stakeholders, building and maintaining strategic relationships to ensure effective service delivery by the GRC Advisory Services function
  • Develop and maintain operational risk and compliance management strategies in strict accordance with the SABN risk management framework and organizational objectives
  • Design, manage, and actively participate in multi-faceted educational and awareness programmes that focus on GRC principles and pertinent SABN policies and procedures
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee comprehensive ethics management practices, business continuity management protocols, and record management systems throughout the organization
  • Ensure ISO certification is consistently maintained through meticulous documentation, systematic registration, and diligent maintenance of SABN and departmental policies, procedures, and processes, while ensuring organizational compliance

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Honours in a relevant field of Governance, Risk and Compliance
  • Certified Ethics Officer professional certification
  • Certificate in Business Continuity Management
  • Certificate in Risk Management (highly advantageous)
  • Certificate in Compliance Management (highly advantageous)
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of demonstrable experience in Governance, Risk, and Compliance functions within a corporate environment

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth understanding of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission’s (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management: Integrated Framework
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the King Code of Governance Principles for South Africa
  • Strong project management capabilities, including specialized process and project risk management skills
  • Proven transformational change management expertise
  • Exceptional communication abilities, both verbal and written
  • Continuous improvement principles and solution development
  • Strategic thinking and analytical capabilities

Assistant: Production

Position Overview

This entry-level production role provides essential assistance to the department with daily production tasks, supporting the efficient operation of manufacturing processes within the South African Bank Note Company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accept and thoroughly inspect products and raw materials from storage areas, ensuring quality standards are met before transporting them to the applicable production sections
  • Proactively ensure that sufficient consumables such as platforms and boxes are available for the production shift, preventing operational delays
  • Operate the feeder system to ensure consistent, high-quality paper feed into the production machine, while troubleshooting and resolving feeder-related problems efficiently
  • Monitor ink levels continuously, replenish supplies as and when required, and perform autonomous maintenance tasks to ensure optimal machine performance
  • Operate the cutting machine for boards with precision, and assist with changeover, make-ready, cleaning, and stripping procedures
  • Report any deviations, anomalies, or quality concerns in accordance with established company procedures and protocols
  • Assist with daily balancing of products and materials, maintaining accurate inventory records
  • Strictly adhere to standard operating procedures, work instructions, and housekeeping standards at all times
  • Ensure safe work practices are consistently followed, while actively identifying, addressing, and escalating hazards and risks in the workplace
  • Perform ad-hoc duties and special projects as requested by supervisory staff

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • N3 Engineering or TT3 qualification
  • 1 to 2 years of practical experience in the printing or manufacturing industry will be considered a significant advantage

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent listening skills and attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes

Operator Coating

Position Overview

This technical operator position is responsible for producing high-quality coated products in accordance with customer specifications and SABN’s rigorous quality standards, ensuring optimal performance of coating equipment and processes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality coated products according to established performance targets while maintaining full compliance with quality specifications and customer requirements
  • Ensure all machines and equipment are operated strictly according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer guidelines
  • Minimize material wastage in every activity, working within set targets to optimize resource utilization and cost efficiency
  • Complete autonomous maintenance tasks as per the prescribed schedule, and immediately report any defective performance or equipment issues to the Section Head
  • Operate all machinery in strict adherence to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) regulations and legislative requirements
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts
  • Immediately highlight any balancing issues, discrepancies, or quality concerns to the Section Head for prompt resolution
  • Ensure accurate and correct entry of all production data into the DCLink system
  • Maintain detailed production records and documentation as required by quality management systems
  • Participate in training and skills development programs to enhance technical competencies

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • N4 qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience within a printing or manufacturing industry, in a similar operational role
  • Practical experience in coating or varnishing processes will be considered a significant advantage

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid understanding of production principles and manufacturing workflows
  • Knowledge of the printing industry and related processes
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills for accurate record-keeping and calculations
  • Effective communication skills for coordination with team members and supervisors
  • Computer literacy, particularly for data entry and basic reporting functions
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Quality consciousness and attention to detail
