Research Counsellor Position

Annual Salary Range: R107,754 – R124,657 + Rural Allowance

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified Research Counsellor to provide comprehensive HIV counselling and testing services while supporting critical research initiatives. This role combines client care with research administration in a community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct HIV pre-test and post-test counseling sessions
• Perform rapid HIV testing following national guidelines
• Support informed consent processes for research participation
• Provide adherence counseling and basic psychosocial support
• Maintain accurate client records and confidentiality
• Assist with participant retention and follow-up activities
• Support research team with administrative tasks
• Participate in community health education initiatives

Essential Requirements:

• Grade 12 certificate
• Accredited HIV Counselling & Testing (HCT) certification
• 2+ years HCT service experience
• 1-2 years research environment experience
• Fluency in Xhosa and English
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications:

• Diploma/Degree in Health Sciences or related field
• GCP certification
• Psychosocial support training
• NGO/public health experience

Work Conditions:

• Rural community-based work
• Possible extended hours per BCEA regulations
• Travel requirements
