Internship: Quality Control – City of Johannesburg Transport Department
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) offers a structured student internship programme that gives young people practical, on‑the‑job training. This opportunity is designed for students who need work‑based exposure to meet academic requirements or to gain experiential training after graduating.
Position Summary

- Stipend:
- R10 109.86 per month (basic salary, no benefits) – for candidates who have completed a qualification with at least 360 credits
- R3 500.00 per month (basic salary, no benefits) – for candidates currently enrolled as students
- Duration: Up to 18 months

Who Can Apply?
- Youth who live in the City of Johannesburg’s communities, meet the minimum requirements and have never taken part in an internship programme before.
- Only City of Johannesburg residents will be considered.

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 at NQF level 4 (with Mathematics)
- Studying towards and/or completed an NQF level 6 Diploma in Transportation Management, Logistics Management, or a related Quality‑Compliance qualification at NQF level 6
- Strong knowledge of how to record and balance figures
- Ability to work scheduled shifts according to the department’s operating hours
Primary Function
Manually record bus kilometres for Rea Vaya Phase 1A, Phase 1B and Phase 1C services because the Bus Management and Control Module (BMCM) is not yet in place.
Key Performance Areas
- Monitor and record daily operated bus kilometres
- Identify and capture missed trips
Leading Competencies
- Computer literacy (MS Office applications) and email
- Language proficiency (reading and writing) in English, with excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
- Problem analysis and problem‑solving ability
- Ability to work with numbers
Core Competencies
- Knowledge of public‑transport operations
- Ability to complete operations reports
- Ability to project daily bus‑operation statistics and plan for the future
