Artisan Mechanic

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Artisan Mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles and small plant machinery. This role involves checking, testing, and repairing mechanical systems to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Artisan Mechanical Trade Certificate (Diesel).
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Code A and EC driver’s licenses, plus a valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
  • Good communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape (English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa).

Main Functions:

  • Perform mechanical checks and tests on vehicles before and after service or repairs. This ensures that the full extent of any issues is identified, repairs are done efficiently, and the vehicle works properly before it is handed back to the user.
  • Diagnose and fix mechanical breakdowns quickly and accurately to minimize downtime and restore full functionality with as little disruption as possible.
  • Carry out regular maintenance on small plant equipment, like tools and machinery, to keep everything in top working condition and prevent unexpected failures.

Special Conditions and Skills:

  • Knowledge of repairing and maintaining motorcycles.
  • Strong skills in welding and metalworking.
  • Specialized understanding of fleet management, replacement principles, practices, and related information systems.

Building Inspector (Enforcement & Compliance)

Job Summary: This position focuses on ensuring buildings and structures comply with laws and regulations. You will investigate complaints, enforce rules, and manage related processes to keep our community safe and up to standard.

Requirements:

  • A relevant National Diploma qualification as required by the National Building Regulations in one of these fields: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Building Management, Building Science, Building Surveying, or Quantity Surveying.
  • Peace officer certification or eligibility to register as a Peace Officer (must have no criminal record).
  • Valid Code B Driver’s License and own reliable vehicle.
  • Communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office.
  • Three to five years of experience in the building industry.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Manage and investigate complaints about non-compliant buildings or structures under the Building Act, SANS 10400 standards, and Problem Building By-Laws. This involves site visits, assessments, and recommending actions.
  • Handle enforcement documentation and records for cases of non-compliance that go to the Municipal Court. Work closely with prosecutors to build strong cases and ensure justice is served.
  • Conduct plan examinations and building inspections as needed to verify compliance with building plan applications and related legislation.
  • Oversee the three-yearly tender process for appointing Built Environment professionals, in partnership with the Supply Chain Management team, to maintain quality services.
  • Assess, process, issue, and monitor compliance for permits related to temporary structures, ensuring public safety during events or construction.
  • Manage, administer, and enforce the Signage By-Law to regulate advertising and signage across the municipality.
  • Provide customer care for inquiries about built environment matters from internal departments and external clients, offering clear guidance and support.

Controller: Payroll

Job Summary: As a Payroll Controller, you will handle the processing of salaries, deductions, and related financial tasks to ensure accurate and timely payments for all staff.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (or equivalent NQF4 qualification) with Mathematics or Accounting.
  • Relevant Financial or Payroll Certificate at NQF5 level.

Controller: Rates

Job Summary: This role involves managing rates accounting, reconciliations, and customer service within the revenue section to support the municipality’s financial operations.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with Accounting.
  • Higher Certificate in Financial Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Project Management.
  • Computer literacy, including MS Office.

Legal Advisor

Job Summary: The Legal Advisor will provide expert legal support, handle litigation, manage contracts, and advise on various municipal matters to protect the organization’s interests.

Requirements:

  • LLB or equivalent legal qualification.
