Winding Engine Driver (REF: IVP-ENG-2517)

Suitable candidates must have the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • Grade 12/NQF 4 or equivalent
  • Trade Test Certificate Section 13 or 26
  • DMR Winding Engine Drivers’ certificate of competency
  • Onsetters certificate
  • Alternative current (AC) certificate
  • Direct current (DC) certificate
  • Full certificate
  • Limited scope certificate
  • Valid Code EB (08) Driver’s license
  • Shaft and Winder Legal Training (advantageous)

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

  • 1-3 years’ experience as underground Winding Engine Driver

Experience in double drum and friction winder, along with engineering-related skills and licenses.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Facilitating the safe hoisting of people, materials, and ore up and down the shaft, in line with the Minerals Act
  • Ensuring the safe movement of men and material in a conveyance or skip
  • Recording the condition of the winding engine daily
  • Transmitting and reacting to signals
  • Completing the driver’s logbook and listing stoppages and reasons daily
  • Advising and making recommendations to the Banksman and Cage Attendant on simplifying work during the shift
  • Determining and verifying load weights and checking them against lifting capacities to prevent overload
