Tutor/Training Officer: (Medical) Academy

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/Matric Certificate or higher
  • Diploma in Emergency Medical Care or higher
  • Current registration with the HPCSA
  • Valid Driver’s License (Code B) and valid PrDP
  • No criminal record
  • 6 years of operational experience in EMS, including 2 years as a paramedic

Primary Function:

Protect people and property in emergencies by delivering theoretical and practical training to learners and firefighters. Conduct assessments to ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to handle emergencies effectively. Provide safe and reliable training, coordinate resources and facilities for the best outcomes, and ensure readiness to respond quickly and efficiently to protect lives and property.

  • Promote compliance with departmental policies
  • Supervise the use and maintenance of station/academy resources
  • Plan, prepare, and respond to emergency incidents as needed
  • Lead continuous Professional Development Programs and manage them
  • Help develop training courses and prepare for their delivery
  • Facilitate training, including classroom lectures, workplace experience, in-service practicals, and hospital placements
  • Provide emergency medical assistance when required
  • Communicate health promotion using suitable techniques and technology for various groups and communities
  • Address ethical issues and conflicts of interest

Leading Competencies:

  • Computer literacy in MS Office

Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of HPCSA rules and regulations, National Health Act 61 of 2003: Emergency Medical Services Regulations, and Health Professions Act 58 of 1974
  • Extensive knowledge of standards, protocols, and procedures from SAESI, HPCSA, ETQA, QCTO, Higher Education Institutions, LGSETA, and other relevant bodies; incorporate them into course materials
  • Basic knowledge of the Fire Brigades Service Act
