Job Description
The Truck Driver is responsible for safely driving vehicles to deliver products to customers, depots, and crop advisors within set deadlines. This role requires maintaining focus at all times and providing excellent care when handling hazardous products. The driver works with the support team to ensure top customer service.
Required Outputs
Vehicle Responsibilities
- Complete a daily vehicle checklist before and after each delivery or collection. Report any defects and drive the vehicle according to the law.
- Assist local authorities in emergencies involving the vehicle.
- Keep the vehicle clean inside and outside. Park and lock it securely at the end of each day.
- Inform the Team Leader when the vehicle needs service. Help report breakdown details to the Despatch Team Leader.
- Report accidents or injuries to the Despatch Team Leader or Warehouse Team Leader right away.
- Manage the vehicle’s fuel card and refuel as needed.
Delivery Responsibilities
- Make about one delivery trip per day to different depots.
- During busy seasons, work extra hours if required to complete driving duties.
- Check that the load matches the transfer documents or delivery notes. Sign to confirm the stock is correct.
- Ensure the load is secure. Help with loading and offloading. Deliver to customers on time.
- Carry necessary documents, including hazchem paperwork and TREM cards.
- Get signatures from receiving depots on documents and return them to the Admin Assistant.
- Confirm and sign for any delivery issues. Work safely and neatly always.
- Use the company-provided cellphone responsibly.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum education: Grade 12
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in distribution, production, or warehousing as a Heavy Duty (Code 14) Driver
- At least 2 years of driving experience with heavy duty vehicles
- Up to 1 week of full-time training required
- Valid Code 14 (heavy duty) driver’s license and medically fit to drive
- Valid PDP and Hazchem driving permit
- Ability to drive a forklift with a valid forklift driver’s license and medically fit for it
- Maintain medical fitness for forklift license renewal
- Very accurate and able to work under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sound knowledge of relevant laws, such as hazardous chemicals road transportation
- Ability to work independently, in a team, and meet deadlines
- Report to a Despatch Team Leader
- Safety-oriented mindset
