Aon Re Africa is looking for a Treasury/Finance Assistant to join our Finance Team. This is a hybrid role, allowing you to work both remotely and from our head office in Sandton.

The main duties include helping the finance team with daily tasks, month-end processes, balance sheet checks, audit support, and financial reporting.

What the day will look like

  • Prepare timely and accurate general ledger reports. Analyze them and make corrections when needed, meeting strict deadlines.
  • Process journal entries and run reports from various systems.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for fiduciary and non-fiduciary accounts, following tight timelines.
  • Spend time analyzing, investigating, and fixing any unresolved items on the balance sheet.
  • Help auditors with finance-related questions when asked.
  • Work with the controllership team each month to improve processes and teamwork.
  • Book foreign exchange deals for payments and ensure they appear correctly in the cash book within the week.
  • Create and process large volumes of high-value payments every week.
  • Monitor and update the cash book daily by following up on unresolved items, reconciliations, and FX transactions.
  • Reduce foreign exchange risks by using proper controls, such as limiting forex deals and getting necessary approvals.
  • Resolve any issues with payments from technical accounts or the bank quickly.
  • Help with occasional projects or tasks as directed by the finance manager.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • University degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of reinsurance premium and claims principles is helpful.
  • Strong knowledge of foreign exchange.
  • Clear understanding of end-to-end fiduciary payment processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant systems (such as RBS, GRiDS, and others).
  • Full understanding of how sales lead to financial reporting.

Skills and Attributes

  • Good MS Office skills, especially intermediate Excel (including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs).
  • Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.
  • Clear and effective communicator, both in writing and speaking.
  • Ability to work well in teams.
  • Comfortable with digital tools, including advanced use of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Willing to learn and follow instructions.

Experience

  • Experience in invoicing through to financial reporting.
  • At least 2 years in a similar role.
