Technical Lead Security

Company Overview

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO), a National Research Foundation facility, manages radio astronomy initiatives including the MeerKAT Radio Telescope. We seek a Technical Lead Security professional to oversee cyber/physical security for scientific and operational systems.

Position Details

Job Type: Full Time
Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Computer Science/Engineering
Experience: 13+ years
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Field: Information Technology

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop security framework aligned with ISO27001/NIST/POPIA standards
  • Create cybersecurity strategy, governance models, and risk management programs
  • Lead security team development and vulnerability management initiatives
  • Implement security controls including SIEM, EDR, Zero Trust architectures
  • Oversee business continuity planning for cybersecurity aspects

Requirements

Essential:
– Professional security certifications (CISSP/CISM/CISA)
– Experience with Science DMZ architectures and high-performance computing
– Expertise in Ansible, ITIL frameworks, and industrial SCADA systems

Technical Skills:
– Hands-on experience with SIEM, NAC, IDS/IPS, and cloud security solutions
– Proficiency in identity/access management and federated identity systems
