Technical Assistant – Private Label Jobs

Introduction

We are seeking a permanent Technical Assistant based in Cape Town. This role reports to the Private Label Technologist.

Job Description

The role focuses on driving, protecting, and enhancing the Clicks brand. You will ensure all products developed and sourced as part of the new product development (NPD) plan meet local and international quality, health, and safety standards. This helps deliver better profitability and grow market share.

Manage Quality, Safety & Legislation

• Support the Private Label Technologist in development plans to ensure quality and safety compliance. Follow legislation and NPD approval processes to protect the brand and business finances.
• Help implement the Clicks Total Supply Chain Optimization (CTSO) in the business and with suppliers. Maintain all quality processes and required paperwork.
• Assist in keeping product specifications and the Risk Assessment Grid (RAG) process updated for each product in the database.
• Ensure product specifications meet quality standards.
• Help write quality protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and manuals for categories like health, beauty, confectionery, electrical, and homeware.
• Assist in updating the CTSO with new quality processes and protocols.
• Support reviewing and sharing Total Quality Management (TQM) results with stakeholders, including customer complaints and quality control results.
• Report and provide feedback on quality issues promptly.
• Ensure the China QA office handles all export needs and the RAG process is followed.
• Assist in implementing the distribution center (DC) release process.
• Help prepare timely sales, quality, and corrective action reports for management by analyzing and interpreting data accurately.
• Support handling customer complaints, queries, red alerts, product recalls, and withdrawals.
• Assist with technical training on products and processes for new launches.
• Help with the batch release process.
• Manage inter-branch sample requests.
• Assist with DC releases and stock investigations.

Manage NPD & Costs

• Help prepare bi-annual competitor quality review reports.
• Manage technical information to support final sign-off on projects for product and packaging compliance.
• Support adherence to and input on the critical path.
• Assist with export project frameworks to adapt products to international rules and launch on time.

Manage Suppliers & Inventory

• Help build strong working relationships with suppliers.
• Understand the impact of low or no in-fills on categories and resolve quality or capacity issues.

General

• Focus on development: Upskill and mentor assistants through performance appraisals (PA) and individual development plans (IDP). Drive your own growth via IDP and report progress to management.
• Demonstrate Clicks values in daily activities.
• Assist the Technologist with administrative duties related to RAG approvals and ad-hoc reporting.

Minimum Requirements

Skills:

• Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
• Time management
• Numerical skills

Experience (Desirable):

• Deciphering technical information
• Working with suppliers and importers
• Quality management or development in beauty or personal care manufacturing facilities or laboratories

Education (Essential):

• Grade 12
• Relevant Degree/Diploma in Retail Management, Quality Management, or similar
