Position Overview
The University of Johannesburg seeks a skilled Technical Assistant to support workshop operations in our Civil Engineering Science department. This role requires hands-on involvement in equipment maintenance, material preparation, and practical session support.

- Minimum Education: Grade 12 + Trade Qualification
- Experience Required: 3-4 years workshop experience

Core Responsibilities
- Prepare lab equipment and materials for practical sessions
- Operate workshop machinery (milling, drilling, welding, lathe operations)
- Conduct equipment maintenance and safety inspections
- Support students during practical demonstrations
- Manage workshop inventory and tool organization
- Ensure compliance with health/safety protocols
Essential Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Fitter & Turner Trade Certificate (Mandatory)
- Valid driver’s license
- Proven experience with hydraulic systems and machining tools
- Physical capability for equipment handling
Preferred Skills
- ECSA registration (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in academic/research environments
- Strong technical troubleshooting abilities
- Effective communication with students/staff
- Flexibility for occasional overtime
