Role Purpose

Lead strategic technical oversight and systems engineering implementation for SARAO projects across their full lifecycle, ensuring operational excellence in radio astronomy initiatives and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design, integration, and verification processes
• Manage technical contracts and project timelines
• Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans
• Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications
• Oversee system interface management and documentation
• Implement quality assurance and performance validation protocols
• Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis
• Mentor engineering teams in systems methodologies

Qualifications

• B.Eng/B.Sc Engineering + 13 years experience or
• M.Eng + 10 years experience or
• PhD + 7 years experience
• ECSA PrEng registration required

Required Experience

• Multi-domain technical leadership experience
• Complex system integration and testing
• Engineering process optimization
• Full lifecycle project management

Technical Competencies

• Advanced systems engineering applications
• Model-based engineering systems
• Configuration management
• RF/digital systems integration

Preferred Experience

Radio astronomy or space systems background
Field engineering/operational support experience
