Job Purpose:

To carry out switching operations as directed.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Operate all equipment on the distribution system (6.6kV and 11kV) for eThekwini Electricity, contractors, and customers.
  • Prepare and return switching.
  • Perform medium and low voltage switching operations, including isolating, testing, earthing, and issuing work permits.
  • Investigate system faults and occurrences, assess situations on site, and detail requirements for restoring supply and repairs.
  • Assist in repairing all types of medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) reticulation.
  • Support Regional and LV Control Officers during emergencies and other situations.
  • Attend to individual reports of supply loss in emergencies and other situations.
  • Participate in network system interrogation.
  • Ensure all operations comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993).

Essential Requirements

  • Trade Tested Artisan (Electrical)
  • NTC2 or NCV3 in Electrical Engineering from a Further Education and Training College registered with the Department of Education
  • Authorised for 11kV switching or able to become authorised within three months of appointment
  • Valid motor vehicle driving licence
  • 3 years relevant experience in the Electricity Supply Industry
