Specialist: Software Tester (Automation) Jobs

Job Purpose

To ensure software testing for automation, security, and performance is done properly. This includes designing, building, executing, and deploying automated scripts using the right tools. It also covers vulnerability and penetration assessments, as well as checking scalability and responsiveness under workload for specific applications. All within set timeframes and against required outputs.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Computer Science, IT, Information Systems, or Engineering, plus 5-7 years’ experience in testing or automation. Of this, 2-3 years must be in technical testing.

Alternative

• Senior Certificate (NQF 4) plus 10 years’ experience in testing or automation, with 2-3 years in technical testing.

Minimum Functional Requirements

• Must have completed advanced, certified training in Technical Testing Techniques (e.g., ISTQB Technical Testing).

• Identify and manage risks in automation, performance, or security projects, and resolve them with stakeholders.
• Identify, prioritize, and meet test requirements with suitable technical or business solutions.
• Coordinate and manage the lifecycle of defect priorities.
• Report on project progress (both qualitative and quantitative) to ensure successful delivery and provide management visibility.
• Define and set up testing strategies and plans to prevent software failures due to security issues between applications and infrastructure.
• Gather information to review work progress for reporting, decision-making, and identifying improvements.
• Apply knowledge to identify trends and risks using methods, systems, and procedures.
• Communicate interpretations and judgments on work outputs and queries in your area of expertise.
• Apply policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation correctly in your work.
• Diagnose symptoms, causes, and effects to solve problems based on your knowledge and experience.
• Provide specialist input through investigations and opportunities in the product process, including risks.
• Initiate and implement process or procedural changes, and provide guidelines for new requirements.
• Plan value-added improvements, initiatives, and services to support operational strategy and objectives.
• Investigate opportunities for optimizing operations, processes, products, and risks.
