Job Purpose

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government, has opportunities for qualified and competent Social Auxiliary Workers. You will assist and support Social Workers in promoting social change, solving problems in human relationships, and empowering people to improve social well-being. This role is under the guidance and supervision of a Social Worker.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 1: Grade 10 plus completion of the learnership to allow registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Auxiliary Worker.
  • Registration with the SACSSP as a Social Auxiliary Worker.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.

Key Performance Areas

  • Assist Social Workers in providing social work services for the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities through departmental programmes.
  • Help address any matters that could lead to or result from social instability.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.
  • Perform administrative tasks to support Social Workers as needed.

Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of human behaviour, relationship systems, and social issues.
  • Understanding of the South African social welfare context, including policies and practices for developmental social welfare services.
  • Familiarity with the South African judicial system and legislation affecting social auxiliary work.
  • Basic knowledge of financial matters related to social auxiliary work.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Skills in information and knowledge management, including keeping precise records and compiling accurate reports.
  • Organising and planning abilities.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Client orientation and customer focus.

Remuneration

  • Grade 1: R192 972 – Grade 3: R339 438 per annum (as prescribed by OSD).
