Role Overview

We’re seeking an expert in international trade law and customs regulations to shape South Africa’s customs policies and represent SARS in global forums. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strategic thinking to drive compliance with international trade agreements.

Core Requirements

• Expertise in Customs & Excise Act 1964 and international trade frameworks (WTO, WCO, SACU)
• Proven ability to interpret complex legislation and trade agreements
• Strong understanding of regional economic partnerships (SADC, AU) and their customs implications
• Experience in policy development and legal drafting

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement international trade strategies aligned with SARS objectives
• Draft legislation and policy documents for customs operations
• Represent SARS in international trade negotiations and forums
• Analyze trade data and prepare strategic recommendations
• Ensure compliance with WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and other global standards

Education & Experience Paths

Option 1:
Honours Degree/Postgrad Diploma (NQF 8) + 10-12 years’ experience

Option 2:
Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) + 12-15 years’ experience
