Senior Specialist 1: Data Coordination (Specimen Databases) Jobs

SANBI seeks a motivated and detail-oriented person to coordinate and manage specimen data and database activities in the Natural Science Collections Facility (NSCF). This role includes developing and using tools, standards, and workflows. It focuses on data migration, customization, digitization, and cleaning, especially with Specify software. You will also capture and share biodiversity data with aggregators and help build a strong network of NSCF partner institutions for better collaboration and data management.

This position requires a degree in Life Sciences, Information Sciences, or an equivalent qualification at NQF 7. An honours degree or postgraduate qualification at NQF 8 is an advantage. You need 6 years of relevant work experience (including time from postgraduate research).

• Understanding of laws, policies, and processes for program and project management.
• Excellent project management abilities.
• Ability to work in teams under pressure while focusing on quality, cost, and safety.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
• Advanced computer skills, including MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, and Outlook.

You must have a valid driver’s license with at least one year of driving experience and be willing to travel.
