Job Overview: Senior Legal Advisor
The Senior Legal Advisor will provide comprehensive legal services, focusing on litigation and employment law support to eThekwini Municipality, its executive management, various committees, and municipal entities. The role involves offering legal counsel on compliance with legislative requirements and guiding the municipality in fulfilling its constitutional, statutory, and common law obligations. This position requires expertise in handling complex litigation, drafting legal opinions, and representing the municipality in various courts.
Key Responsibilities
- Employment Law Support: Provide expert legal advice on employment law matters to the municipality and its entities.
- Legal Opinions: Draft formal legal opinions and advice on employment law-related issues.
- Contract Drafting & Vetting: Prepare and review employment law-related contracts.
- Research & Training: Conduct legal research and provide training on employment law matters to ensure compliance.
- Litigation Management: Represent the municipality in lower courts, labour courts, high courts, and appeal courts, including the Constitutional Court.
- General Litigation Support: Provide legal guidance on general litigation matters and draft legal memorandums and opinions.
- Municipal Prosecution: Deliver effective municipal prosecution services.
- Legal Representation: Liaise with external legal counsel and attend court hearings with attorneys or advocates for trials or applications.
- Administrative Support: Perform various administrative legal tasks, including reviewing requests for employee indemnity in criminal cases.
