Senior GIS Data Analyst

Position Overview

Join Africa’s Best-Managed City as a GIS Data Analyst. Work with Durban’s municipal electricity infrastructure team to maintain critical spatial data systems powering South Africa’s third-largest city.

Core Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate GIS records of electrical infrastructure (overhead lines, substations, underground networks)
• Ensure precise geometric network connectivity in enterprise geodatabase systems
• Resolve technical queries about electrical infrastructure from internal teams and external partners
• Verify field data accuracy through collaboration with engineers and technicians
• Analyze GIS datasets to identify network inconsistencies and propose solutions
• Update system templates and contribute to data model improvements
• Support development of operational procedures and training materials

Essential Requirements

• NQF Level 6 Diploma in Geoinformatics/Cartography/Geospatial Science
• 4+ years’ GIS experience in electrical infrastructure environment
• Valid driver’s license and first aid certification (or obtain within 6 months)
• Certification to work in live electrical environments
• Proficiency in enterprise GIS platforms

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Geospatial Sciences
• 5+ years’ related experience
• Relevant software certifications
• Advanced electrical network modeling experience
