Requirements:

  • National (N/T/S) Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or an equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification.
  • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician is an advantage.
  • 5 years of experience in metering and electricity tariff designs.
  • Valid Driver’s License Code B.

Duties:

  • Ensure metering circuits are installed, commissioned, and maintained. Download metering data for analysis and instruct team members on program and tariff changes.
  • Conduct inspections of metering circuits according to the schedule. Generate, analyze, and report on the electricity balance to reduce distribution losses.
  • Identify causes of deviations and recommend corrective actions using data-mining and other techniques. Present actual losses and customer segmentation in a clear format for reporting.
  • Work with the Engineering Technician: Renewable Energy to design, draft, get approvals, and implement projects for energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Investigate and suggest energy-saving models, such as streetlight retrofits, roof PV systems, solar farms, and solar water heaters for municipal buildings to lower losses.
  • Prepare and submit a NERSA-compliant Cost of Supply study on time. Design and update electricity tariffs to meet NERSA guidelines, ensuring they are competitive and sustainable.
