The South African Police Service (SAPS) is recruiting a Section Commander: Operational, NATJOINTS & Support for their Corporate Communication and Liaison team in Pretoria, Gauteng.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Matric/Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) on NQF level 4.
  • A three-year Diploma or Degree (NQF level 6 or higher) in Communication, Journalism, Media Relations, or Public Relations.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the field, with two (2) years at Salary Level 9/10/11 or equivalent.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • Fluency in two official languages, one being English.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide communication support for NATJOC/NATJOINTS, special events, and multi-disciplinary security operations.
  • Act as a media liaison officer for SAPS.
  • Draft and issue media statements on behalf of SAPS.
  • Create and implement communication plans in line with National Instruction 5 of 2017.
  • Ensure media coverage for JCPS Cluster Briefings and other SAPS events.
  • Manage proactive and reactive media statements for NATJOINTS and SAPS operations.
  • Attend JCPS Cluster Meetings and provide communication-related information.
  • Address any communication crises involving SAPS and provide relevant responses to the media.

General Requirements:

  • No previous criminal or departmental convictions or pending cases.
  • Applicants will undergo vetting, security screening, and fingerprint verification.
  • Applicants must not have visible tattoos when wearing SAPS uniforms.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Applicants will be subjected to a medical assessment and firearm competency training.
