To support its vehicle fleet, SAPS is seeking a qualified Motor Vehicle Mechanic (Petrol) at the KwaMhlanga Garage in Mpumalanga.
Job Details:

Generic Requirements:
- Competency: Applicants must demonstrate competency in the core functions of the post.
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Languages: Proficiency in at least two official languages, with English as one of the required languages.
- Driver’s License: A valid light motor vehicle driver’s license is mandatory.
- Clean Record: Applicants must have no previous criminal or departmental convictions, nor any pending cases.
- Appearance: No visible tattoos when wearing a uniform.
- Vetting Process: All applicants will undergo security screening, including fingerprint verification.
Additional Post Requirements:
- Trade Certificate: A valid Trade Test Certificate relevant to the post, in accordance with the Skills Development Amendment Act 37/2008.
- Experience: Previous experience in the field is advantageous but not mandatory.
Core Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs: Perform high-quality, cost-effective repairs and maintenance on SAPS vehicles.
- Workplace Safety: Ensure a clean and safe working environment in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Act 83 of 1995).
- Diagnosis & Strip Down: Diagnose mechanical issues, strip vehicles, and determine the parts required for service and repairs.
- Documentation: Complete parts request forms and job cards with details of work performed and time taken.
- Equipment Security: Safeguard tools and equipment.
- Mentorship: Supervise and mentor apprentices during their training and development.

Selection Process:
- Verification: Short-listed candidates will be required to present original documentation during the selection process. All qualifications and licenses will be verified with relevant institutions.
- Interview & Assessment: Short-listed candidates may be required to attend a personal interview and undergo a practical assessment.
- Vetting: All candidates selected for specific posts will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act and the Children’s Act. Candidates appearing on the National Register for Sex Offenders or the Child Protection Register will be disqualified.
- Fingerprint Screening: All short-listed candidates will undergo fingerprint verification.
