Job Summary:

The SACAA is seeking a dedicated Legal Support Officer to provide comprehensive legal services, including drafting legal documents, conducting research, and offering legal advice to safeguard the interests of the organization. This position requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills and a solid background in legal practices.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provision of General Legal Support Services:

  • Draft submissions for the Board and Executive Committee, along with monthly reports.
  • Assist the Senior Manager: Legal and Aviation in analyzing exemptions and providing legal counsel.
  • Participate in SACAA Committees to protect the organization’s interests.
  • Perform additional functions for the Legal Department as delegated by the Senior Manager.

2. Drafting of Legal Opinions:

  • Conduct research and draft accurate legal opinions.
  • Recommend appropriate courses of action based on legal analysis.

3. Litigation Process:

  • Research legalities to ensure SACAA is shielded from potential legal risks.
  • Coordinate and assist attorneys in litigation matters, providing guidance as necessary.

4. Drafting of Contracts:

  • Draft, vet, interpret, and advise on contracts to ensure compliance and protect SACAA’s interests.

5. Management of Direct Reports:

  • Monitor outputs on assigned tasks to ensure quality and timely service delivery in line with the Service Level Charter.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or B Proc; must be admitted as an Attorney or Advocate (completed pupillage with a recognized association).
  • Ideal Qualifications:
    • LLM Degree
    • Diploma in Legislative Drafting, Contract Drafting, or Constitutional Interpretation
    • Legislative and/or Contract Drafting Diploma/Certificate

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Attorney or Advocate, with relevant exposure to the interpretation of statutes, Administrative Law, and Commercial Law.
  • Post-admission experience is essential.
