About the Role:

Join our team maintaining Africa’s advanced radio astronomy infrastructure. Work on cutting-edge electronic systems for the MeerKAT Radio Telescope and related research equipment through hands-on technical solutions.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance on telescope antenna systems and electronic components
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic systems
  • Design and implement PCB systems (analog & digital)
  • Maintain fiber optic networks and cryogenic system electronics
  • Mentor junior technicians and students

Technical Requirements:

  • Proficient in electronic fault-finding to component level
  • Experience with microcontroller programming (Python/C)
  • Skilled in PCB design software (Altium/DesignSpark)
  • Competent using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and soldering equipment
  • Knowledge of RF principles and microwave systems

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at height and in confined spaces
  • Capable of operating heavy machinery (mobile cranes)
  • Valid driver’s license
