About the Role:
Join our team maintaining Africa’s advanced radio astronomy infrastructure. Work on cutting-edge electronic systems for the MeerKAT Radio Telescope and related research equipment through hands-on technical solutions.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance on telescope antenna systems and electronic components
- Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic systems
- Design and implement PCB systems (analog & digital)
- Maintain fiber optic networks and cryogenic system electronics
- Mentor junior technicians and students
Technical Requirements:
- Proficient in electronic fault-finding to component level
- Experience with microcontroller programming (Python/C)
- Skilled in PCB design software (Altium/DesignSpark)
- Competent using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and soldering equipment
- Knowledge of RF principles and microwave systems
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at height and in confined spaces
- Capable of operating heavy machinery (mobile cranes)
- Valid driver’s license
