About the Role:

Lead innovative research on vegetable insect pests through field and lab-based studies. Manage research projects from concept to completion while adhering to scientific standards and organizational strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute field/lab experiments with accurate data collection/analysis
  • Develop new research initiatives and secure external funding
  • Manage laboratory resources, equipment, and research teams
  • Produce scientific publications, technical manuals, and public outreach materials
  • Provide diagnostic support and pest management recommendations

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in relevant agricultural science discipline
  • Minimum 3 years’ post-graduate research experience
  • Proven laboratory/insectary management skills
  • Experience with crop pest monitoring and field trials
  • Valid South African driver’s license
  • Record of scientific publications (minimum 2 peer-reviewed articles)

Preferred Skills:

  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) expertise
  • Experience presenting research findings
  • Technical writing for non-academic audiences
