About the Role

We seek a skilled researcher to advance excellence in agricultural research through plant taxonomy and biodiversity studies. This 3-year contract role requires deep botanical expertise and field research capabilities in South Africa’s ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced research in plant systematics and taxonomy
  • Manage herbarium specimen curation and database systems
  • Perform field studies across diverse South African biomes
  • Publish findings in high-impact journals
  • Supervise MSc/PhD students in botanical disciplines
  • Lead national/international research collaborations
  • Secure research funding and manage projects

Essential Requirements

  • PhD in Plant Taxonomy/Botany or MSc with 3+ years post-grad experience
  • Minimum 2 peer-reviewed publications
  • Proven conference presentation experience
  • Expertise in taxonomic databases (BRAHMS platforms)
  • Field research experience in Southern African flora
  • Valid Code 8/10 driver’s license
  • Track record of research funding acquisition
  • Student supervision experience
