Research Technician – Bacteriology (3-Year Fixed Term Contract)

Position Summary

We seek a qualified Research Technician to support bacteriology research projects focusing on vegetable crops, industrial crops, and medicinal plants. This fixed-term position is based at our Roodeplaat research facility in Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement technical activities for plant pathology research projects
  • Coordinate bacterial identification through molecular techniques
  • Prepare pathogen inoculum and manage field/greenhouse trials
  • Develop training materials for farmers and students
  • Create public-friendly articles on plant disease prevention
  • Maintain research equipment and manage project resources
  • Prepare technical reports and support national research initiatives

Requirements

  • Essential: National Diploma in Microbiology/Plant Pathology or related field
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline
  • 2+ years’ experience in bacteriology/plant pathology
  • Practical skills in:
    • Disease diagnosis
    • Pathogen identification
    • Basic molecular biology techniques
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
