Qualification:

• Grade 12 or a relevant post-matric qualification, preferably NTC 3 in Water Treatment or Waste Water Treatment.
• Trade-related qualification: Operators Certificate / Waste Water Treatment Practice (N3).
• 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Requirements:

• Class II Operator certification.
• Code B driver’s license.
• Proficiency in at least two official languages of the Western Cape (reading, writing, and speaking).
• Ability to do basic calculations.
• High level of responsibility.
• Attention to detail.
• Knowledge of process functionality in a Waste Water Treatment Works and related installations.
• Understanding of plant performance, system functionality, recording, and reporting.
• Physically fit and healthy.
• Able to enter confined spaces like manholes, inlets, pipes, and culverts.
• Willing to work in all weather conditions.
• Available to work outside normal hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
• Ready to perform duties across the entire municipality when needed.

Job Purpose:

To treat wastewater by following specific operating procedures, control plant performance, conduct tests, and take corrective actions. This ensures compliance with standards and maintains optimal functionality.

Key Performance Areas:

• Operate the Waste Water Treatment Plant according to procedures to ensure proper treatment and purification.
• Clean units and dispose of waste to maintain housekeeping standards and prevent downtime.
• Supervise and control civil services for operations and maintenance of Waste Water Treatment Works.
• Keep records and report on activities.
• Follow health and safety rules to prevent incidents and maintain a safe environment.
• Participate in the Municipality’s Performance Management and Development System.
