Job Purpose
The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has opportunities for two suitably qualified and competent individuals to provide holistic nursing care to residents in a cost-effective, efficient, and equitable manner.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 1: Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse; Compulsory registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. No experience required.
- Grade 2: Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse; Compulsory registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse; A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.

Key Performance Areas
- Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing plan (clinical practice/quality care to residents).
- Implement standards, practices, criteria, and indicators for quality nursing (quality of practice).
- Practice nursing and health care in accordance with the prescripts and regulations relevant to nursing and health care.
- Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing multidisciplinary team members and other stakeholders.
- Utilize human, material, and physical resources efficiently and effectively.
- It will be advantageous to have a mental health qualification (advanced psychiatry).
Competencies
- Knowledge of the following: Nursing care processes and procedures; Nursing statutes and any other relevant legal frameworks such as: Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Patient Rights Charter, Batho Pele Principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act.
- Skills needed: Written and verbal communication; Proven computer literacy; Report writing; Facilitation; Coordination, liaison, and networking; Problem solving; Information and knowledge management; Planning and organizing.
Remuneration
- Grade 1: R476 367 – R559 548 per annum.
- Grade 2: R583 989 – R723 954 per annum (OSD as prescribed).
