Requirements
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus a Basic R425 qualification (such as a Degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse in 2025.
- A post-basic nursing qualification with at least 1 year of experience, accredited by SANC under Government Notice R212 in Psychiatric Nursing Science.
- A minimum of 4 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Good supervisory and teaching abilities. Understanding of relevant legislation, legal, and ethical nursing practices.
Duties
- Perform clinical nursing practices within the scope of the Psychiatric Unit.
- Manage resources effectively and efficiently.
- Provide quality patient care and follow established norms and standards.
- Participate in quality improvement programs.
- Supervise and implement patient care standards.
- Practice nursing in line with statutory laws governing the nursing profession, labor, and health care. Build positive working relationships with nurses and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Infection Prevention and Control policies. Keep equipment functional and ready for use. Prioritize and coordinate patient management activities according to protocols. Plan and organize your work and that of support staff to ensure proper nursing care.
- Participate in staff development and performance management. Report patient safety incidents, challenges, and deficiencies in the unit.
- Work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse intellectual, cultural, racial, or religious backgrounds.
- Adhere to Batho Pele Principles and the Patient’s Rights Charter.
