Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus a Basic R425 qualification (such as a Degree or Diploma in Nursing) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse in 2025.
  • A post-basic nursing qualification with at least 1 year of experience, accredited by SANC under Government Notice R212 in Paediatric Nursing Science.
  • A minimum of 4 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and show leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, supervisory, and teaching skills.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, legal, and ethical nursing practices.

Duties

  • Perform clinical nursing in line with the scope of practice for the Paediatric Unit.
  • Manage resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide high-quality patient care and follow all norms and standards.
  • Take part in quality improvement programs.
  • Supervise and implement patient care standards.
  • Follow statutory laws for nursing, labor, and health care.
  • Build positive working relationships with nurses and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies.
  • Keep equipment functional and ready for use at all times.
  • Prioritize and coordinate patient management activities according to protocols.
  • Plan and organize work for yourself and support staff to ensure proper nursing care.
  • Participate in staff development and performance management.
  • Report patient safety incidents, challenges, and deficiencies in the unit.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse intellectual, cultural, racial, or religious backgrounds.
  • Adhere to Batho Pele Principles and the Patient’s Rights Charter.
