Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus Basic R425 qualification (i.e., Degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse).
  • A post-basic nursing qualification of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in terms of Government Notice R212 in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science.
  • A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Good supervisory and teaching skills. Understanding of relevant legislation and ethical nursing practices.

Duties

  • Provide comprehensive maternity nursing care to patients, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services.
  • Supervise and guide junior nursing staff and students in maternity procedures and protocols.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in line with best practices and SANC guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, ethical standards, and relevant health legislation.
  • Participate in health education, quality improvement initiatives, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
