Principal Court Interpreter Opportunity

Department of Justice and Constitutional Development | KwaZulu-Natal

Position Type: Full-Time

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Matric (NQF Level 4) + National Diploma in Legal Interpreting (NQF Level 5) or equivalent qualification
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Court Interpreter, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and at least two indigenous languages
  • Valid driver’s license required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise interpreter teams across district offices
  • Provide accurate courtroom interpretation services
  • Translate legal documents and evidentiary materials
  • Maintain and update specialized legal terminology databases
  • Support court record management processes
  • Coordinate foreign language and temporary interpreter services
