Job Description

  • The TRADE (Trade and Development) research entity at the North-West University (NWU) invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the fields of development economics, informal economy, migrant workers, day labourers, and informal entrepreneurship.
  • TRADE is a dynamic and internationally connected research entity with a presence across all three NWU campuses: Potchefstroom, Mahikeng, and Vanderbijlpark. The entity focuses on cutting-edge research in development economics, international trade, applied economics, financial markets, supply chain, and transport economics. We aim to create a research environment that promotes excellence, innovation, and scholarly impact both locally and globally. TRADE’s strong academic networks and collaborative partnerships provide great opportunities for international research collaboration.
  • The successful candidate will be based at the Potchefstroom Campus and will join a team of experienced researchers. The goal is to strengthen scholarly outputs in economics. Depending on performance, the position may be extended for a third year.

Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD in Economics or a closely related field, awarded within the past five years. Preference will go to applicants who obtained their doctorate from a university other than NWU.
  • Strong skills in mathematical and econometric analysis.
  • A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in financial market research.
  • Good proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • A proactive work ethic and experience in securing research funding will be an advantage.
