Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reputable Post Basic Qualify Pharmacist Assistant for their Mosselbaai store. This role entails providing essential pharmaceutical care tailored to the patients’ medicine-related needs, emphasizing accountability in serving the community effectively.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience with Unisolv system
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent numerical proficiency
  • Strong command of English and proficiency in a second language
  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
  • Ability to converse in a third additional language
  • Experience with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Understanding of drug and family planning, along with complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
  2. Support the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medication per approved protocols.
  3. Engage in manufacturing non-sterile medicines as per the formula and standard operating procedures.
  4. Participate in the re-packaging of medicines.
  5. Manage stock distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
  6. Assist in the ordering of medicines, in compliance with legal directives.
  7. Interpret prescriptions accurately and ensure proper labeling of dispensed medications.
  8. Provide clear instructions to patients on the proper use of dispensed medicines.
  9. Monitor medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing.
  10. Facilitate the authorization processes for chronic medications within the pharmacy.
  11. Maintain customer profiles, input accurate patient data, and report stock levels.
  12. Support promotional health information initiatives for community welfare.

  • Proficiency in English and an additional language – both written and spoken.
  • Excellent communication skills and an astute customer service approach.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound numerical skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities, team-oriented mindset, reliability, and honesty.
  • Effective time management and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Computer literacy – MS Office is mandatory.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council is a must.
  • Flexibility to work retail hours is essential.
  • Must maintain physical fitness to endure long working hours and manage stock.
  • A valid driver’s license and clear credit and criminal background checks are required.
